The nerve of Iskra Lawrence.
As a society, we know it isperfectly reasonable to tell a woman to turning that frown upside down when we see fit. Iskra Lawrence had the boldnes to suggest thats a loading of BS.
In a recent interviewwith Seventeen, the British model spoke out against catcallers, telling,
English laborers you know, builders would sometimes holler, Cheer up, love! or Crack a smile! and Im like, OK, how dare you try to tell me to smile! Is it for you benefit? I should look smiley and, therefore, attractive to you? Like its such a weird concept to me.
During this interview, Lawrence discussed everything fromphotoshopping cover shoots and celebrity crushes to her first simulate gig and her craziest shoot.
But of all the things she told, theres no question her most radical ideas came when she was discussing the notion girls shouldnt “re going to have to” smile all the time and kill themselves to constantly look pretty for society.
Some people have a resting bitch face. If Im tired, I could be inducing faces and I dont even know Im doing. Theres nothing wrong with having a bad day. Let yourself feel those emotions because every emotion is validated.
Come to think of it, the British models words resemble the words of another celebrity who merely couldnt resist rebelling against the idea of perpetually smiling women.
Heres Serena Williams shutting down a reporter after he asked her why shes not smiling at the podium.
Its 11:30 to be perfectly honest with you, I dont want to be here. I merely want to be in bed right now, and I have to wake up early to practice. And I dont want to answer any of these questions, and you guys keep asking me the same topics. So youre not making it super enjoyable.[ laughs] Just being honest.
Now, Im not telling Lawrence and Williams are crazy, but to actually agree with what they said would entail working against the idea females are simply adornments for male enjoyment. Blasphemy!
Its crazy talk, I tell you!( But no, severely, actually listen to them. Please .)
